ORIENTAL COCKROACH (Blatta orientalis)

Key Biology

  • 1 inch long as an adult
  • Shiny black with no distinct markings
  • Males have wings, which cover 3/4 of the abdomen and also have styli between cerci
  • Female has only wing pads and does not have styli between cerci

Distribution/Habits

  • Usually found in damp basements, sewers, and crawlspaces
  • Climb water pipes and garbage chutes
  • Can tolerate hot dry locations if water is available
